Tulku Tales

Oh gosh, where has the time gone? This life's cup is so filled to the brim with its own particular chaos that no matter how carefully I take each step some of its contents spill over the edge. I have forgotten birthdays and events and the list of emails and phone calls needing to be made grows long.
In these last few years I have unwittingly taken on an adventure that akin to all the most thrilling tales if the adventurer only knew what was involved from the outset they would not have left the safety of home. And yet the adventure brings with it such experiences  that they could never wish them away.
Driven by some kind of unrelenting force I have gathered new knowledge and qualifications in pursuit of a long held yearning to combine art, spirituality and healing. Now, as I watch this year flow through my finger tips like water I am beginning to hear and feel the call to settle and be still. Ah ha...she thinks..if I put the cup down, it will not spill.
Still there are final dissertations to write and a few more months to go but I can feel the beginning of the end.
In a small moment I stopped and allowed myself to paint - just a little one....

It has occurred to me that there may be nothing more beautiful than the deep, still wisdom that arrives in moments of great compassion for others. Suddenly our hearts meet the world, the universe and life itself. There is no space between the I and the We and a spontaneous joy arises .
Tulku's embody this compassionate wisdom - it is their love that brings them back to us in human form over and over. Their only desire is to help and teach so that all living things may be relieved from suffering.

The Bodhisattva Prayer

May I be a guard for those who need protection
A guide for those on the path
A boat, a raft, a bridge for those who wish to cross the flood
May I be a lamp in the darkness
A resting place for the weary
A healing medicine for all who are sick
A vase of plenty, a tree of miracles
And for the boundless multitudes of living beings
May I bring sustenance and awakening
Enduring like the earth and sky
Until all beings are freed from sorrow
And all are awakened.
 - Shantideva, Indian Buddhist sage 700 A.D.  Prayer performed each morning by His Holiness the Dalai Lama
